Treatments for Calluses & Corns
Calluses and corns are widespread complaints that are often caused by pressure or friction on the feet. Although they seem harmless at first, over time they can cause pain and restrict mobility. In this blog post we show you effective methods of treatment – above all with high-quality pedicure and manicure instruments.
Tools against calluses & hard skin
Remove it rather than soak it – that is how the skin stays healthy:
- Stainless steel callus shaver + 100 blades – removes thick calluses safely
- Basic callus rasp – the gentle way to start at home
- Lengthwise callus shaver – for large areas of hard skin on the heel
What are calluses and corns?
- Calluses (callus): Thickened, hardened patches of skin, usually on the balls of the feet or the heels.
- Corns (clavus): Small, round, hardened spots with a hard core – often between or on the toes.
Both are caused by pressure points, for example by shoes that are too tight or by misaligned feet.
An overview of the causes
- Poorly fitting footwear
- Frequently walking barefoot on hard floors
- Foot deformities (e.g. hallux valgus)
- Excessive production of hard skin
Treatment options with pedicure and manicure instruments
1. A foot bath to prepare
A warm foot bath (10–15 minutes) softens the skin and makes it easier to remove hard skin and pressure points.
Tip: Add a dash of apple cider vinegar or a special foot bath additive to the water – this has an antibacterial and soothing effect.
2. Removing hard skin with a rasp or file
- Callus rasp: Suitable for coarse calluses. Always work in one direction.
In our online shop you will find various types of callus rasps. First of all the classic version in stainless steel:
But there is also the more affordable version with a plastic handle:
- Fine callus file: For finishing and smoothing.
Glass files or ceramic files are ideal for gentle finishing.
3. Removing corns precisely
- Corn knife or scalpel: Only for experienced hands – ideal for pinpoint removal.
You will find scalpel handles such as the classic no. 3 and no. 4 handles as well as the matching scalpel blades in our Scalpels & Blades category.
- Bits with a diamond head (for an electric pedicure): Particularly hygienic and precise.
Bits for removing and finishing the skin of the foot can also be found in our Nail Drills & Bits category. We stock ceramic bits, tungsten carbide bits and cone-shaped and ball-shaped nail bits.
- Manicure instruments: A cuticle pusher and tweezers help with the gentle treatment of sensitive areas.
For fine work on the cuticle or for removing small shreds of skin we stock a wide range of double-ended instruments such as cuticle pushers, nail knives, cotton hooks, corner lifters and tamponading instruments.
Please note: In the case of painful or deep-seated corns, a podiatrist should be consulted!
4. Care after the treatment
- Foot cream with urea (10–25 %): Provides the skin with moisture and prevents new hard skin.
- Antibacterial sprays: Prevent inflammation after the treatment.
- Cotton socks: Support regeneration overnight.
Prevention is everything
- Wear well-fitting, breathable shoes.
- Regular foot care – at least once a week.
- Use insoles or pads to prevent friction.
- Daily care with a moisturising foot cream.
